PHB Clinical Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of providers or supervisor.
Responsibilities
Complies with PENN HIGHLANDS BROOKVILLE policies and procedures, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state or local law and regulations
Observe patient presenting themselves for registration by asking questions and noting physical signs for serious medical and/or psychiatric problems which may require immediate medical attention.
Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts using age appropriate procedures.
Compile and record patient medical history, problem list, medications and other pertinent data for providers.
Communicating pertinent information to providers, supervisors and co-workers to ensure patient follow through.
Maintaining patient medical record.
Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment. Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.
Performs the following laboratory tests according to procedure:
a) Accu Checks for glucose
b) Macroscopic urinalysis (dipstix)
c) Occult blood
d) Hemoglobin by Hemacue
e) Rapid Strep
f) Serum Pregnancy
g) Performs QC and takes appropriate action when QC is out Centrifugation of blood specimens
Performs the proper procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory tests, i.e., blood, cultures, 24-hour urine, fasting specimens, nasal smears, and urinalysis.
Performs phlebotomy techniques for adult and pediatric venipuncture in various sites, i.e., arm, hand, and wrist; for finger sticks and heel sticks.
Demonstrates knowledge of all phlebotomy equipment, i.e., needles, tubes, etc. and routine laboratory requests, and specimen requirements. Attaches the proper referral form with orders forwarded to Brookville Laboratory for blood specimens.
Performs EKG's by attaching and connecting electrodes and monitoring for abnormal patterns and keying information into machine.
Edits and forwards EKG final results to physician for analysis and interpretation.
Records information such as Physicians' orders and instructions, dietary requirements, and medication information, on patient charts and medical records.
Assembles equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
Schedules test and procedures by telephone or fax with appropriate departments as directed by the physician.
Collects payment from patient and secures it until it can be delivered to Business Office.
General duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Assistant program required
Completion of a Clinical Medical Assistant Program or Completion of a Medical Assistant program with 2 years hands on experience preforming clinical duties required
Current NCCT Medical Assistant Certification or must be obtained within 2 year from hire date required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
